Is it bad for your skin to sleep in makeup?

I often forget to take off my makeup before I go to bed at night. I heard that that is bad for your skin. Does anyone know if this is true and why?Is it bad for your skin to sleep in makeup?
Yes, it's true. You need to wash off all the oil build up and bacteria from your skin or else it will clog the pores, create blackheads, etc.

Cleaning your skin serves to exfoliate the cells and prepare it for creams -- exfoliating kinds are the best, like Alpha Hydrox.

What I've done lately is to wash my face a few hours before bedtime because I may be too tired at bedtime.

I also have a box of those face wash cloths in case I'm too tired to wash my face, they're wet and better than nothing. Is it bad for your skin to sleep in makeup?
DEFINATLY !!!! YOUR SKIN NEEDS TIME TO BREATH AND HEAL, NEVER WEAR MAKE-UP TO BED !!!!
oo yes its bad

it clogs your pores which builds oil and results in blemishes!

esp. foundation!!!
You must cleanse your skin and must remove the makeup before sleep. The chemicals present in the cosmetics affect the skin from inside and very soon you will have skin infections and your doctor will not permit you to use any cosmetics.... so its better to take preventive action... prevention is better than cure.
yea its pretty bad.....not only does it make your face oily but it can block up your pores that causes more acne and like i said more oil......so when ya can take your make up off before you go to sleep.....
Yes, because it will give you pimples.

If you don't get pimples or oily skin - lucky you. And don't worry bout it!
Not if you wear mineral makeup. Go to the Store called Ultra ask for the makeup that's made from minerals. It's costly however if you are one to sleep in your makeup then it would be worth it.
MOST DEFINENTLY!!!

It clogs your pores and doesn't allow it to breathe and causes acne. Then when you fall asleep on your pillow and all the makeup is now on the pillow the next night you go to sleep and wash your face it's as if you didn't.

I have very acne prone skin so washing my face with warm water and cleaner 30 minutes or so before i go to bed is a MUST!
yes it clogs pores!.. you could get some baby wipes and put them by ur bed so those nights u forget to take off ur makeup and dont wana get back outa bed, jus wipe ur face off with the baby wipes. It wont clean ur face as well as washing but will better than nothing.
GOSH.. DON'T EVER EVER FORGET TO WASH UR FACE..

IT MAY LEAD TO WRINKLES..
They say if you leave it in it clogs your pores.
It's also bad for the pillow.
you should always take it off. Makeup has some heavy minerals and metals that are not good for your skin long term... its like going to bed with paint on your face. You need to wash that stuff off as soon as possible. Save it for when you really need it.
yes. while you are resting, your skin should too. thats why many skincare lines give instructions to cleanse, tone and moisturize in the morning and at night before you sleep. otherwise, you are not letting your skin rest and breathe. the makeup will clog your pores and cause it to have blemishes, blackheads and pimples. ..and eventually bigger pores.
yes of cos...neva to sleep with your make up on!
All I know is if you wear mascara to bed, it'll make your eyelash fall off. o_O
Of course

Your pores are all clogged up let them breath

When your sleeping is when your body rejuvenates and your body starts to heal from all your day activities

Its best to cleanse and moisturise only then have a peaceful sleep while your skin heals
Yes it is very bad...It is a must for healthy skin to wash your face every evening and remove all the impurities that have embedded on your face throughout the day. If you do not, it clogs your pores and causes alot of skin irritations, not to mention pimples and black heads
yes your skin needs to breathe at night! don't do it! I used to and now i religously wash my face every night and every morning and it always looks fresh and clean.
Yes ..because your pores get clogged
